In addition to carbon dioxide (CO2), the GHG Protocol also defines other climate-active gases (such as methane or nitrous oxide) that also have to be taken into account. The climate impact of these gases is converted to the equivalent amount of CO2 for the same global warming potential. The sum of all these gases is shown as CO2 equivalents (CO2e).
